Crown Inn (Harbour Bar)Castle Street
See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.
The Crown Hotel on Castle Street closed at New Year 2015 for refurbishment, and reopened as the Crown Inn. "The Harbour Bar" is the public bar on the ground floor with an improved entrance. There a separate entrance up a few steps for the comfortable lounge bar on the first floor and the Harbour View Restaurant. Worthy of note are the bar stools which would challenge some mountaineers! Although both the upstairs and downstairs bars each have two hand pumps, they offer the same real ales chosen from the Star (Heineken UK) list. Visits in 2019 have found a mix of English and Scottish real ales. A testament to their popularity is that they do run out very quickly. Clearly some people are very thirsty for real ale in Stornoway! Other than the four hand pumps, there are several fonts offering mostly mainstream keg beers and a selection of bottled beers that includes a selection of UK and US beers, Guinness West Indies Porter (6% but incorrectly listed as 3.8%) and a few others that might be worth a try! They offer designated drivers driving groups of four or more 25% discount on non alcoholic drinks, which is a worthy initiative. NOTE - The lounge bar upstairs opens before the public bar downstairs but does not open on a Sunday. The Harbour Bar is closed Mon - Wed during the winter but the upstairs bar is open as normal.
