Located in the middle of Aviemore, The "Bally" re-opened its doors mid September 2019 after a short closure for major refurbishment and offers up to three real ales from Greene King, or their "guest list", and a font offering Thistly Cross cider. On cooler days, a wood-burning stove radiates warmth and welcome. The lunch, dinner and kids menus offer well chosen dishes to satisfy those just looking for a light snack all the way to meals for the hungry. Six en-suite bedrooms offer cosy accommodation. Aviemore lies inside the famous Cairngorm National Park and is the hub of the year-round tourist industry, with snowsports during the winter, and hill walking and watersports during the summer. Served by a main line service, it is possible to get a train direct from London, alight at Aviemore, cross the platform and take an onward journey on the Strathspey Railway which runs steam trains nearly all year. The pub started out life as the The Balavoulin many years ago, but was renamed Mackenzies Highland Inn before "re-establishing" itself during the summer of 2019 and is now run by Struan and Angie Robertson. [Update 29 May 2024: report of one single hand pump, serving Old Golden Hen.]
