The Ceilidh Place in Ullapool grew out of Broomview Cottage and was started in 1970 by actor Robert Urquhart, who was born there in 1921. It started as a small café in the boat shed with aspirations of becoming a place for eating, meeting, talking and singing. That it has achieved, offering a quiet environment for meeting friends, or just having a coffee. The independent bookshop has grown year on year and has one of the widest selections on the North West Coast, catering for all ages and interests and also promotes Scottish literature. Well behaved children welcome. Accommodation includes rooms and bunkhouse. [Update 15 Sept 2022: report of Swannay Low Roller and Loch Fyne Jarl on tap. "Two hand pumps very good ales, best we have found in Ullapool".]
